The connection between Workout for Happiness and science is two-fold.
On the one hand, Workout for Happiness is based on science. Firstly, that implies that the content of the Workout derives from scientific theories, empirical evidence and expert opinions on what increases well-being – stemming from various fields such as nutrition, sports and (positive) psychology resulting in a holistic approach to foster well-being. Secondly, the Workout for Happiness team uses theories on motivation, learning and behavior change to support the developmental process of the participants in the best possible way. Thirdly, the Workout will be embedded in an ongoing scientific evaluation. System data, as well as data stemming from scientifically validated questionnaires, will be analyzed not only to help participants monitor their progress but also to derive valid results about the program’s success in fostering well-being and constantly improving the program based on the retrieved results.
On the other hand, Workout for Happiness also wants to give back to science by contributing and advancing research on the fostering of well-being. Therefore, the future Workout for Happiness Foundation, the nonprofit entity of Workout for Happiness, will partner up with researchers in the respective areas and make the anonymized data available for their research. Specifically, the program yields the possibility to systematically analyze:
The effects of different interventions on the improvement of well-being
Mechanisms behind these effects
The interplay of the intervention effects with one another and personal or situational factors
A lot more that is still to discover: so if you are interested in future collaboration, please do not hesitate to contact us, we would be happy to hear from you!
Hence, the Workout not only draws from research but also produces rich empirical, longitudinal data, usable for researchers worldwide to promote the advancement of well-being research in the fields of nutrition, sports and (positive) psychology.
